Dear M,

Are you seriously a manager? I thought managers were responsible. I thought they wrote things down, like people’s work hours and schedules. You didn’t. Last week, I asked if I could work from 4-9 Tuesday and Thursday. You said I could, which I confirmed, TWICE. You nodded and said, “Yup, 4-9, I’ll put you down. ” Well, I came in today, all ready for my shift, cute uniform and all. I kind of noticed some of my coworkers glancing at me curiously for some reason. Then, Josh, another manager, came up to me and the following conversation occured:

Josh: (with clipboard in hand) You’re not working today. You’re not on the schedule.

Me: Um, yeah. Yeah I AM. M said I was, he said he’d put me in from 4-9 today and Thursday. He told me twice.

Josh: Um, well, he never put you on, we’re kind of already overloaded and I’m having to send people home. Let me check with Brenna, though. (Josh leaves and then returns)

Josh: yup, Brenna said no. We can’t use you. Thanks anyways…sorry. (walks off)

Me: (calmly) um…okay.

Honestly, I didn’t want to be calm right then. I wanted to stand up on the table and scream, “NO!!!! M said I could work!!!!!! UNLESS HE DIDN”T LOOK AT THE FREAKING SCHEDULE ALREADY!!!! I HATE WORKING HERE!!!! YOU GUYS ARE SO IDIOTIC!!!” Yes, I wanted to throw a fit. I realize that.

Thankfully, however, I contained myself, until I had left the premises. Anyways, my point is, next time, can you please follow through on what you say you’re going to do? I really had to put in alot of effort so I could get to work, and it really ticks me off when people don’t keep their word. I guess I’ll see you Friday, and in the mean time, I’ll be trying to forgive you for 1) lying to me 2) making me look stupid in front of everyone, and 3) for being a lousy manager. I guess I was expecting too much to begin with, though.
